What if no one ever invented satellites? Can you imagine? There would of course be no GPS for you car, which could effect you personally and you might be without all the XM Radio Channels? Direct TV would not be available and forget their 100รขโฌโขs of channels and pay per view sports? And the United States Military would not have such an easy time with "Shock and Awe" and flying smart bombs and missile through windows, meaning more people would die in war to go in personally to capture or kill the bad guys. Many innocent people would die because the bombs would be slightly off or carpet-bombing strategies would be used instead. But that is not all.
Without satellites we could not monitor our Earth or even figure out the issues with Climate Change or Global Warming. What if Hurricane Katrina, Rita and Wilma were not very well predicted? What if all weather forecasts were more about probabilities from Farmerรขโฌโขs Almanac that actual storm weather? Can you imagine that? Where would mankind be without the weather prediction satellites? How about cross-ocean telephones? Well you are talking about many cables crossing the ocean and when they got damaged for any reason, no communication? The World Wide Web would be completely fractionalized. In fact without satellites nothing would be the same and life as we know it would be thrown back a ways, not to the stone ages, but you might feel that way if it happened. By the way could it happen? Perhaps from a massive Solar Flare? Well indeed it could and so we should be thinking here as our scientists work on ways to be build better systems which can withstand anything. Think on this.
